rapids ? why? explain yourself. i ve been asking myself that all weekend. why bother? cedar rapids, i m here with i m in sundance for cedar rapids which is a movie very near and dear to me. the movie centers on a character from a tiny town in wisconsin. he s never left. in his mid-30s and he s never, ever left this little town. he s like a sneaky credit card. what is it? tim? it s an afro-american man standing in my room. what s he doing? he s smiling at me. he s very sheltered. some might say stunted. and he just has never come of age. he lost his parents at a young age. he s forced to attend an insurance convention in cedar rapids, which to him is the most terrifying big city.
with valentine s day right around the corner now, many couples will be planning the big date night. usually that means dinner at a restaurant and then a little movie. but what if you could combine the two? oh. we re not talking about eating pizza on the couch in front of your tv. we re talking about something a lot cooler. take a look. this was a crazy idea. no, it wasn t a crazy idea. reporter: date night doesn t always turn out the way you plan it. just ask steve carell and tina fey. they made a whole movie out of their disastrous date. but in real life, it doesn t have to be that hard. everyone is looking for something a little different. they also are looking for convenience. so, we thought, okay, well, if you re going to go to a movie, you re usually going to include dinner at some point in your evening. why not combine the two? reporter: it s called dine-in movies. the concept is simple.
kind of get both. reporter: and it s giving a boost to the local economy, by adding more jobs. when you add the kitchens and you have to had positions like kitchen managers and servers. we ve had to add from the corporate level to the theater level a whole section of associates that we never had before. reporter: these movie goers give their experience four stars. it was relaxing. it was almost like you were at home. i think that was the most for me. you should just come out and experience yourself. loved it. will definitely come back again. looking forward to it. nice. and the good news is you can still get the traditional things like popcorn and candy. the snack bar items are listed on the menu as well. amc theater uses dishes designed not to make noise so it won t interrupt the movie. very, very smart. new jersey and dallas have these, also going to come to atlanta, kansas city and orlando. and they have a full bar. very cool.
