Hoimyr said the mother isn’t doing well and is trying to find answers to what happened.
She said the boy was in the care of his father and aunt before being placed in foster care by Children’s Services. Hoimyr said the mother was in the middle of a court battle to regain custody of the boy and her other children when the tragedy happened.
“The system is broken,” Hoimyr said.
“So many children go into care and they come out, (or) if they come out, (they’re) worse, more damaged than they were prior. What I want to see changed is the people who take our children, I want them to be held responsible for the decisions that they make for our children while they’re in their care.”
