Earlier he earned his PhD at Harvard University and worked on the Papers of Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony at Rutgers University. Besides three volumes of the Polk series, Dr. Cohen has published articles in peer-reviewed journals and the book Reconstructing the Campus: Higher Education and the American Civil War.
