Cardano is spending some of his newfound free time canvassing the 19,000-acre, manmade lake that sprawls like the city of Atlanta about 80 miles to the west but offers an unmistakable serenity. Lot of casting and reeling. And coming up empty, Cardano said this week after participating - and persisting - in a fishing tournament despite heavy rains.
Conrad Cardano, center, has retired after 34 years with the Vikings, a run that began in 1987.
