After a four-day trial in Boston, a jury on Thursday convicted Nicholas M. Hoar of one count of deprivation of rights under color of law, and two counts of false reports, Acting US Attorney for Massachusetts Joshua S. Levy said in a joint statement with the FBI. He was accused of assaulting a handcuffed man and then falsifying a police report to cover it up.
A Fall River police officer has been convicted of assaulting a man in custody with a baton and failing to report the assault. Nicholas Hoar is set to be sentenced on April 24.
Nicholas M. Hoar, a policeman with a long record of violent incidents during his four years of active duty, including a fatal police shooting in 2017, was found guilty of striking a suspect on the head with a steel baton.
