In the Falkland Islands Legislative Assembly this week MLA Leona Roberts responded to a question from MLA Gavin Short on the subject of whether Falklands students were facing financial difficulties while studying overseas and what steps FIG was taking to mitigate this if it was true.
Taking into account that most British Overseas Territories have sent representatives to London for the several days celebration of King Charles III Coronation, the Joint Ministerial Council which brings together UK Ministers and elected leaders of the OTs, will be taking place this week, May 11/12.
A Magherafelt schoolgirl was one of seven winners from across the UK of the Falklands Forty Schools Competition, as part of the commemorations marking the 40th anniversary of the liberation of the islands.
On Tuesday afternoon Members of Falkland Islands Legislative Assembly met with the Falklands40 UK Student competition winners, who arrived in the Islands on Monday. MLAs thanked the group for their interest in wanting to visit the Islands, and for sharing their insight on the modern Falklands.
Today, at the AGM of UK Overseas Territories Association (UKOTA), the Falkland Islands were elected to the Presidency of UKOTA, replacing the Turks and Caicos Islands who held the Presidency for the last year.
