A PAPER on fishing quotas ‘New Individual Transfer Quota (ITQ) Rights: Additional Policy Clarifications’ was discussed at the most recent meeting of the Falkland Islands Government’s Executive Council.
Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Hansen said: “The report covered additional detailed policy issues to enable the Falkland Islands Government to take forward the drafting of the revised 2005 Ordinance.”
He explained that the policy framework for issuing new ITQ rights for a new 25 year period, based on recommendations set out in the commissioned 2018 report from consultants Terra Moana, was agreed by Executive Council in December 2020.

The Falkland Islands Government Executive Council, ExCo, has agreed to the making and publication of a Declaration to bring into force regulations 11 (restrictions on movement) and 12 (restrictions on movement – specified areas) in order to ‘prevent, protect against, delay or otherwise control the incidence or transmission of coronavirus in the Falkland Islands.’ The regulations form part of the Infectious Diseases Control (Coronavirus) (No 2) Regulations.
Members of the public and the military have previously been asked to restrict their travel between Mount Pleasant Airfield, Mount Pleasant Head Quarters, RADCON and East Cove Military Ports (Mare Harbour Port). The Falkland Islands Government Executive Council, ExCo, has done a review of policies, protocols and legislation referred to Covid-19, and announced decisions on quarantine regulations and visitor policies with a change of category for conservation and environmental specialists.
The changes, according to a Wednesday release from FIG, seek to further tighten requirements in order to protect public health, particularly in light of new strains of coronavirus circulating within the UK.
As part of its fifth review into the range of policies, protocols and legislation surround Covid-19, ExCo met twice in contingency this week to consider a series of new recommendations.
