THERE was disappointment for small parties and independent candidates yesterday as their major rivals swept the board at the Scottish elections. New pro-independence organisations Restore Scotland and Scotia Future, led by ex-SNP MSP Chic Brodie, had hoped their manifestos – offering a sovereign Scotland with the EU – would attract Yes voters disenchanted with the pro-Europe policies of the SNP and the Greens. However, despite concerted campaigns, neither secured enough support to win any seats. Two other pro-Yes parties – Action for Independence and the Independence for Scotland Party (ISP) – had also planned to stand candidates, but withdrew after the launch of the Alba Party.

Boris Johnson has set himself on course for a constitutional clash with Nicola Sturgeon if she pushes ahead with plans for a second Scottish independence referendum - which the PM has called irresponsible and reckless .
Counting continues in the Scottish parliamentary contest, with the SNP leader s hopes of achieving a majority on a knife edge, after a poll predicted the party could miss out by just one seat.
But it is still highly likely the SNP will win its fourth term in power at Holyrood, and Ms Sturgeon said when the time is right she will offer Scots the choice of a better future in a second independence referendum.
The Conservatives polled 8800 - narrowly beating Labour into third place with 8516.
The Scottish Greens picked up 2333 votes, ahead of the Liberal Democrats on 912 and the Alba party with 629.
Returning officer Kenneth Lawrie declared the number of votes cast in the Central Scotland regional list ballot tonight (Friday) just before 7.30 pm.

However, the Falkirk East votes are just one part of the Central Scotland ballot and the full results will not be known until tomorrow when North Lanarkshire s returning officer will announce the final totals.
