ISLAMABAD (APP):Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Syed Fakhar Imam on Thursday stressed the need for promoting climate resilient and water smart agriculture in addition with water conservation to avert climate change challenges in the country.
Addressing a seminar, the minister said that Pakistan was one of the least contributors to global greenhouse gas emissions causing climate change yet worst affected by their underlying impacts due to its higher vulnerability caused by geographical location.

Govt mulls offering international price to cotton growers

LAHORE: The federal government is pursuing a proposal to offer an internationally competitive support price to cotton growers in the country to incentivise cultivation and to pump money into the rural economy.
Federal government has constituted a committee to determine cotton support price for local farmers under an innovative formula, which can eventually dole out 90 percent of prevalent international price plus freight charges.
Although the process of giving approval to the final cotton price mechanism runs at a snail’s pace, it has finally passed through the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet.

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet here on Friday approved the flagship ‘Kamyab Pakistan Program’ besides approving several other projects.
The ECC meeting was chaired by Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Shaukat Tarin, according to press statement by Finance Ministry here.
The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Fakhar Imam; Federal Minister for Energy, Hammad Azhar; SAPM on Finance and Revenue, Dr. Waqar Masood; SAPM on Power and Petroleum, Tabish Gauhar; SAPM on Youth Affairs, Usman Dar, Secretaries of Finance Division, Communication and Industries and Production. Governor State Bank of Pakistan, Chairman PTA and other senior officers also participated in the meeting.
