Many on the left were indignant when the Trump campaign legal team tried to convince legislatures in several battleground states to appoint a new slate of electors after asserting election irregularities.
However, four years ago, many Democrats, liberal activists, and Hollywood stars tried to pressure electors to reverse the results of the November election.

They had been lobbied for weeks to abandon Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. But ultimately, only two members of the electoral college did so, while five members deserted Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
It was the largest number of individual defections by electors in a U.S. presidential election but not enough to change the outcome.

The final tally in Monday’s vote was 304 votes for Trump and 227 votes for Clinton. The two Republican renegades were from Texas, while Clinton lost pledged votes from Hawaii, Maine and Washington.

Another official move in America s sometimes-convoluted presidential election process takes place Monday as the electors of the Electoral College cast their votes.
It s one of the final steps in picking a president, but who are these electors and how do they get selected?
It begins and ends with loyalty loyalty to state and national parties. That in part is how the candidates are all but guaranteed to have the electors votes match the ballots cast by regular people in general election voting in each state.
