A lottery was held to determine which candidate will be listed in the top spot on the ballot for the Sept. 5 Democratic primary, ahead of the general election to replace David Cicilline in Congress.
More candidates could file on Friday to run for the First Congressional District seat that Democrat David N. Cicilline vacated on June 1 to lead the Rhode Island Foundation.
The 16 announced Democratic candidates must make it official that they are running during a two-day declaration period that opens at 8:30 this morning.
