Among them are “hair symbolizes physical strength and virility” and “a bad hair day is just a bad day.” Vacaville’s Bahiaya Spaulding, whose first name means beautiful in Swahili, has opted to express her life with alopecia in a series of detailed paintings featuring combs, now on display at the Solano Town Center Gallery.

(Robinson Kuntz/Daily Republic) Bodie focus of exhibit at Solano Town Center FAIRFIELD When Dennis Ariza visited Bodie Historic State Park for the first time about a decade ago, what he saw was surreal. “It’s an amazing place,” he said. “The first time I went through, I thought the people had been abducted by aliens.” There were plates of unfinished food, a general store with items in stock, even unfinished homework – and no human inhabitants. Ariza, president of the Fairfield-Suisun Visual Arts Association, is the featured artist at the Solano Town Center Gallery. The topic: “The Abandoned Gold Rush Town that is Frozen in Time.”
