STUDENTS at two specialist schools in Wiltshire have received new toys, games and other items to use in their classrooms following a successful charitable campaign from a local company. Office Evolution, based in Melksham, approached their customers Larkrise School (now Silverwood School) and Fairfield Farm College in Dilton Marsh in December and asked them to create a wish list of items they would love to have in their classrooms, but couldn’t afford to purchase themselves. Thanks to the kind generosity from local businesses, along with the office supplies company themselves match-funding every donation given, these schools have now received gift packages of their chosen items.

STUDENTS at Fairfield Farm College cooked up a storm as they took part in a virtual bake-off with their colleagues. They produced a variety of chocolate chip mug cakes, with students taking to Zoom to judge each other’s creations. Students thoroughly enjoyed themselves, with Holly saying: “I enjoyed making my mug cake, it was delicious.” The challenge is just one of many online activities that students have enjoyed as part of their virtual learning programme during the latest lockdown. The Dilton Marsh college offers predominantly vocational lessons, such as hospitality, catering, retail, horticulture, animal management and equine studies. A spokesman said: Offering these lessons online has been a challenge for teachers. However, the team have risen to the occasion, as both teachers and students have learned a variety of new ways to interact and enjoy a shared learning experience.
