The Fairfield Elks Lodge has recently made 3 donations to area organizations, totaling $8500. The organization made donations of $6,000 to Feed My Sheep. $4,000 was from a Beacon Grant while the other $2,000 was from a Spotlight Grant. $2500 to Compassion Pregnancy Center as part of a Gratitude Grant. The Elks National Foundation gives the opportunity for each Elks Lodge to work toward meeting a donation goal through the Lodge and then completing grant applications to assist their local community organizations with much-needed donations. The Fairfield Elks has been a part of the community for over 80 years.
Carroll Edward Strange, 88 of Fairfield passed away at 6:55 PM, Sunday, January 15, 2023, at Fairfield Memorial Hospital. Born on October 4, 1934, in Flora, IL to Delbert and Wilma Gladys (Yates) Strange, he loved animals and was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed following his kids and grandkids sports. Carroll was well known for working in oilfield services, starting at Fluid Pack Pump in Clay City before moving to Fairfield in 1960 where he continued to work for them until 1983. He then started Strange Pump Services in Fairfield with his sons Mark and Doug where he worked until his retirement in 2004. Carroll was also a longtime member of the Fairfield Elks Lodge. Carroll is survived by sons Mark (Maria) Strange of Flora, IL, Scott Strange of Riverview, FL, and Doug (Beth) Strange of Fairfield, stepsons Randy Green of Harrisburg, IL and Roger Green of Burnt Prairie, IL, 5 grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and 10 step great grandchildren. Wayne County Chamber of Commerce would like to announce the Annual Senior Citizen's Christmas Light Tour Monday, December 12th. A light meal will be served at Ellen Moore Church following the light tour. A performance by the Roasted Chestnuts will also get underway around 6:00 PM. Rides Mass Transit will provide transportation for seniors 55 and up. To get on the list please sign up at Fairfield Apartments, Brookstone, The Fairfield Highrise, or Fairway Apartments. Pick up at these locations will be at 5:00 on Monday, December 12. To nominate a home for the tour, please call the Chamber Office at 842-6116 on or before Thursday, December 8th.
