The rescue took place on a small pond off Middle Road in Fairfield around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday where a dog is believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries.
When fire departments in Waterville and Winslow began billing Benton for mutual aid, it responded by formalizing a longstanding partnership with Fairfield.
The three were treated and released from a hospital following what police described as a nearly head-on collision on the Norridgewock Road on Saturday night.
