Assassination of FEFA head sparks widespread criticism

(Last Updated On: December 23, 2020) Afghan leaders including President Ashraf Ghani and Chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation Abdullah Abdullah along with the foreign community in Kabul have strongly condemned the assassination on Wednesday of Yousuf Rashid, head of the Free and Fair Election Foundation of Afghanistan (FEFA).     Photos and footage from the scene showed shattered glass and a blood splattered vehicle which was testimony to the barrage of bullets fired at the two men.    The Presidential Palace (ARG) stated in a series of tweets that Ghani has shared his condolences with the families and colleagues of the victims and that he condemned the attack.

April 3, 2021 Executive Director of FEFA ‘Yousuf Rasheed’ assassinated in Kabul – he was a man of courage, and a voice against totalitarianism  AT News KABUL: Another civil society activist and the CEO of the Free and Fair Election Forum of Afghanistan (FEFA) Yousuf Rasheed, was assassinated in Kabul on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred in PD 7 th of Kabul, a city where insecurity has been on the rise on a daily basis. Kabul Police Spokesman, Ferdaws Faramarz said the terrorists targeted Executive Director of FEFA Yousuf Rasheed and his driver in Tani Kot area of the city. Unknown gunmen started shooting at his vehicle while he was on his way to office, Abdul Baqi Rasheed, his brother said. His driver, who received injuries in the shooting, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Two killed in Kabul shooting, bomb attack

At least two people have been killed in a bomb attack that was followed by a shooting in Kabul. Unknown gunmen shot and killed Mohammad Yousuf Rasheed, the head of an independent Afghan elections watchdog on Wednesday, said Ferdaws Faramarz, a spokesman for Kabul’s police chief. The shooting took place when Rasheed, the executive director of the NGO, Free and Fair Election Forum of Afghanistan, was on his way to work. His driver was wounded and taken to hospital, Faramarz said. In a separate attack, a police vehicle was targeted by a sticky bomb in the eastern part of the capital.

Afghan Election Activist Dies After Rush-hour Kabul Ambush

Text size A prominent Afghan activist who led an independent election monitoring organisation died Wednesday after being ambushed by gunmen in Kabul, an aide and police said, the latest targeted killing in the restive capital. Mohammad Yousuf Rasheed s driver also died from wounds received in the ambush in a southern suburb of the capital as they drove to work. Rasheed s murder follows a similar pattern of recent weeks, where prominent Afghans have been ambushed during the often-chaotic morning traffic. Rasheed was head of the Free and Fair Election Forum of Afghanistan (FEFA) which, according to its website, has worked since 2004 to promote democracy, good governance, and human resource management.
