10-year-old Girl Dies in Blackout Challenge Circulating on TikTok

A 10-year-old girl has died after doing the Blackout Challenge that she reportedly saw on the social media platform TikTok. The child, from Italy, was taken to a hospital in Palermo in cardiac arrest, where she was declared brain dead, as reported by ANSA.
The girl is said to have tied a belt around her neck as part of the challenge, which encourages people to try and pass out by restricting their airflow. Another variant of the challenge called the Pass Out challenge encourages people to shake their heads until they pass out.
