In a Facebook live event Tuesday evening, United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain outlined what he said the UAW was demanding in its contract talks with GM, Ford and Stellantis.
It has come to light that the UAW has reinstated an earnings limit placed on workers receiving strike pay, which was temporarily lifted during the 2019 GM strike.
The media are promoting Fain’s “militant” bona fides because they know that behind all the blustering rhetoric about “corporate greed,” Fain and his lieutenants are known quantities, having worked loyally in the bureaucracy for decades.
The talks are not negotiations between two antagonistic parties but a conspiracy to force workers to bear the full cost of the conversion to electric vehicle production.
It has taken less than three months for UAW President Shawn Fain and his administration to demonstrate conclusively where they stand: on the side of the corporations and opposed to the interests of the workers they claim to represent.
