Heavy snow fell across much of the uk today, causing disruption on the roads, to air travel, and on the railways. Hundreds of flights were cancelled or delayed at a number of airports, including at heathrow, stansted, and in belfast. There were problems for rail passengers too, while the police warned motorists to travel only if absolutely necessary. The met office says its the heaviest snowfall to hit parts of the uk in four years. Tomorrow, hundreds of schools in the midlands, gloucestershire and shropshire will be closed.
