Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and Kilifi’s Amason Kingi are yet to find a common ground on the future of Coast politics ahead of the 2022 General Election.
Kingi is expected to hold a meeting with leaders of fringe parties next Tuesday to deliberate on plans to amalgamate them to form a formidable outfit. The Mombasa governor has steered clear of the regional party debate, insisting that he will battle it out with other presidential aspirants for the ODM ticket.

Factional politics and supremacy wars have stalled efforts of the Jumuiya ya Kaunti za Pwani (JKP) established to scale up economic development of the Coast region.
Critics argue that failure by founders of JKP to involve residents at the grassroots levels and reliance on advice of the elite have contributed to a delay in realising the bloc’s vision.
They say the change of guard from founder chair Salim Mvurya (Kwale) to Taita Taveta governor Granton Samboja last Wednesday was insignificant.

Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya was yesterday stripped of the chairmanship of Coast economic bloc, Jumuiya ya Kaunti za Pwani (JKP), as the rift between him and his counterparts widens.
Mvurya, who is an ally of Deputy President William Ruto, was replaced by Taita Taveta Governor Granton Samboja, an ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Governors Samboja, Hassan Joho (Mombasa), Amason Kingi (Kilifi), Dhadho Godhana (Tana River) and Fahim Twaha (Lamu) declared that Coast will field a presidential candidate during a meeting in Mwakishimba village, Taita-Taveta County, yesterday.

Factions allied to Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and Kilifi s Amason Kingi have failed to agree on whether they should form a Coast political party, remain in ODM or seek new alliances ahead of 2022 polls.
In a closed-door meeting held in Nyali on Monday, the two leaders, however, agreed on the need to ring-fence the political turf and end hostility between different factions in the region.
To that end, the second meeting of all the six governors in the Coast has been scheduled for February 9 in Voi, followed by another of all elected leaders on February 20.
