The quit notice served on the Fulani community in Igangan, Oyo state, by a non-state actor, Chief Sunday Igboho, is a timely reminder that Nigeria is at the risk of becoming a failed state.
In my previous article, I argued that no private individual should have such powers in a modern nation-state. But with unending raping, kidnapping and killing â and with the Nigerian state unable or unwilling to bring the criminals to justice and protect its citizens â Igangan people cried out to Igboho, a âyouth leaderâ who works for politicians during elections, for help. They have more faith in Igboho than the Nigerian state. He swiftly asked the Fulani to quit. We are playing with fire.

Babafemi Ojudu, special adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on political matters, has revealed the deal a national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Tinubu struck with Sunday Adeyemo alias Sunday Igboho in 2009.
Sunday Igboho has been largely involved in the crisis between herdsmen and residents of Ibarapa Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Ojudu said in an article on Monday that Tinubu persuaded Igboho not to interfere with the May 2009 rerun election in Ekiti after learning the Peoples Democratic Party was planning to disrupt the polls.

It was in 2009. The Appeal Court sitting in Ilorin ordered a rerun in a number of polling units in the election between Segun Oni of PDP and
Oni had in the main election and the election petition tribunal that followed been declared winner of the gubernatorial contest. Our party , ACN contested this , hence the declaration of a rerun.
The election which came three months after the Appeal Court judgement was like war. The PDP ruling at the Federal level did not want to lose Ekiti while the opposition ACN led and financed by Bola Ahmed Tinubu wanted to take Ekiti by all means.

Details of a secret meeting between the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Sunday Adeyemo, otherwise known as Igboho, has emerged.
The meeting which happened in 2009 was to persuade the businessman and activist from unleashing mayhem with his thugs during the Ekiti rerun election of that year.
This much was revealed by Special Adviser to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Political Matters, Senator Babafemi Ojudu.
