reaction to the opioid crisis has obviously changed over time, from how people viewed addiction in the 80s and 90s to where we are today. and we ve seen a lot in terms of manufacturers and big pharma. this may be one of the first times we re seeing doj go after the pharmacy that is providing the material. you ve had a lot to say about this. in fact, new legislation on this very issue. tell me about it. well, it s outrageous what rite aid is doing. i mean, i ve traveled to so many communities, factory towns decimated because our manufacturing left, went offshore. and people are just suffering because of addiction to opioids. i mean, debts of despair is about how a lot of people in the working class have life expectancies less than they had 20, 30 years ago. and then to have companies like rite aid profiting on the despair and grief of americans is sickening. i don t think that s actually a partisan issue. i think you would have republicans and democrats saying the same thing. there
district should not lower penalties for carjackers and things like that. he made this announcement in a meeting of senate democrats today in the capitol, that came after his visit last night. something hielse, jake, we r hearing from the president as we kind of look towards 2024.ar i bring this up because we re just talking about talking with dasha at c-pac, touting the legislative successes of the dems going into the election season. you thinknt about the economy, being the number one concern fob so many americans, i want to bring up this poll from factory towns across six states. and the top concern out of this polling is rising cost of living at 37%.t and the main complaint they have with the biden administration is there is no real economic plan. when you rere thinking and talkg about how democrats can kind of tout legislative successes, why is it, you think, some of the
challenges. they are increasingly buying into concerns about taxing, government taxes, government spending, et cetera, opposed to the democratic message, that, you know, this is a product of corporate greed, of the republicans being too close to ceos. eugene, something katie highlights is both paries have a branding problem. many voters studies in the factory towns are deeply, profoundly cynical about both political parties, the report found, with swing voters holding the impression that both democrats and republicans are too the sharpest argument against republicans, the polling found, is they are on the side of corporations and ceos and work for the wealthy. democrats, meantime, are seen as weak and ineffective, especially when it comes to economics. inside the report, the data found democrats struggled with the perception that a democratic economic plan does not exist or doesn t help regular people s own working families. a claim that resonated with base democratic and independent
