(Shutterstock) PEABODY, MA Elected officials and climate advocacy groups cheered the pause announced Tuesday in the proposed gas power plant project in Peabody near the Danvers line. The Massachusetts Municipal Wholesale Electric Company, which had pushed the plant to satisfy surge capacity requirements for Peabody Municipal Light and the region, said Tuesday morning its board of directors authorized the 30-day pause during a special meeting held on Monday.

Patagonia launches campaign urging Brits to support community renewable energy After successful campaigns on renewable, community-owned energy projects in the US and EU, Patagonia has begun supporting UK residents to follow suit. The campaign’s headline facet is a documentary of the same name that has been made available on YouTube. The 38-minute documentary explains how community renewable energy projects can contribute to the low-carbon transition, as the EU and UK alike aim for net-zero by 2050. It also outlines the potential benefits in terms of lower energy bills and local economic benefits to residents.

Duluth City Council declares climate emergency

Created: April 12, 2021 10:26 PM The Duluth City Council has unanimously voted to declare a climate emergency in the city. This will now allow the city to develop a Climate Action Work Plan with the goal of reducing the city s emissions at least 80 percent by 2050. The plan will identify strategies for decreasing greenhouse gas emissions, and to help both city government, and the community prepare for a changing climate. WDIO-TV/File This would be done by reducing energy consumption in buildings, increasing efficiency and resiliency in city utilities, supporting low-carbon transportation options, and supporting renewable energy development among other things. Duluth City councilmember Joel Sipress co-sponsored the resolution. He emphasized how the plan is meant to address what he called a climate crisis now rather than later.
