i m being told right now it looks like the members of congress are just coming out of their tour. they were in there about an hour, which is about the time i got to spend in there, as well. sounds like a long time, but this is a massive facility. this campus is a former job force site, so we got to go into lots of rooms and see the dormitories, but it felt like we were rushed and briskly taken from room to room. i didn t talk to a single child in there, and i toured the centralized processing center in mcallen, texas, and i got to talk to people there. they didn t allow that here. now, marco rubio toured this facility yesterday. he said they also told him he would not be able to, and some of the images you re seeing from inside are probably these government issued images because they won t let us bring cameras, phones, or security devices citing privacy reasons. we ll see. the democratic delegation that was here, you mentioned some of those members, they said they are going to try to t
i will tell you also senator marco rubio, the republican from the state of florida, he visited this facility yesterday. he said i was not allowed to talk to any children. they cited privacy concerns. it s the same thing they told me. they also wouldn t let us bring cameras or phones or any recording devices in there citing those privacy concerns of the children. the democratic delegation here said they were told the same thing but they re going to try to talk to kids. look, i can tell you i ve been now this is my second facility i ve toured. the first one was the centralized processing center they were talking about in mcallen, texas. i talked to people in there. i had a chance to interact with them. i didn t get a chance inside here to speak to any of the nearly 1,200 kids from ages 13 to 17 that are inside this facility here. it was very different-looking. there are no cages or kennels that we could see aside from this fence around the actual camp. it s an old vacant job corps si
mission it is to protect children, would not use the states to help provide services is incredible to me. are they safe? do you know the kids are safe? you know, we have a good foster care system, but these are kids who are highly traumatized. i went to a facility yesterday. i mean just put this in real terms. you have a child who s with their parent. they show up at the border. they think they re going to a new country together with their parents and then they wind up in a cage, they wind up separated, and they wind up being put on an airplane or a bus and sent somewhere else in the country. they don t speak the language, they don t know where they are. the facility i was at said they have a high level of psychological trauma, anxiety disorders. they don t know where their parents are either and their parents don t know where they are. as a political matter, governor,
you wouldn t give $25 billion. let s see, poppy. senator nelson, thank you. also, please let us know if you do get into that center where those children are being held, okay? i m trying this weekend. thanks, senator. nice to have you. thanks, poppy. overnight, children arriving in new york. migrant children, a federal source tells us, to be held in a shelter near harlem. mayor de blasio toured the facility yesterday. he was appalled by what he saw. he joins me next.
there were working generators at this facility yesterday, but this person was working on the day shift, and the question was what happened during the night shift, perhaps, that may have led to the ac perhaps going out? that s all part of this investigation that is underway right now. this area is sealed off, and again, these 150 people were evacuated to other facilities. we re still awaiting word from authorities and a news conference any moment now to find out what their conditions may be. andrea? and gabe, do we know the ages of these victims? reporter: we don t. that s another thing we re hoping to learn, but we can tell you that from speaking with a case worker here, most of the residents here, according to this caseworker, were older than 65. we did speak with a family member who had a 58-year-old sister here. so this was a facility that was treating mostly older folks, some had been here for years,
