COLOMBO (News 1st): A consignment of 500,000 doses of the AstraZeneca COVISHIELD Vaccines ordered by the government are expected to arrive in the country within this month, the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation of Sri Lanka (SPC) said.
The vaccine manufacturing company has agreed to provide the remaining 500,000 doses by next month, Dinusha Dassanayake, the General Manager at the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation of Sri Lanka told News 1st on Wednesday (Mar. 10).
As of now, 1.5 million doses of the AstraZeneca COVISHIELD Vaccines have been ordered from Serum Institute India; of that, 500,000 doses were already received.
Furthermore, 264,000 AztraZeneca Vaccines were provided to Sri Lanka under the COVAX Facility of the World Health Organisation.

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Ministry of Health hopes to purchase 18 million COVID-19 Vaccines, a top health official said.
“Adequate funds were already secured to purchase 10 million vaccines. There will not be any issues in securing funds to purchase the remaining 8 million doses,” Dr. Hemantha Herath, the Deputy Director-General of Health Services said on Saturday (Mar. 06).
Dr. Hemantha Herath was hopeful that of the total amount of vaccines ordered so far, close to one million vaccines will arrive in the country in the near future.
High powered group ready to assist with vaccine financing

A year-old, locally-owned private company made up of high-powered businessmen is anxiously standing by to invest in Government’s proposed national vaccination fund to purchase additional doses.
Chairman of the COVID-19 Relief and Recovery (Barbados) Inc, Andrew Mallalieu revealed that the company is only awaiting word from Prime Minister Mottley – who last week suggested calling on the organisation.
“We have people who have contributed for the purchase of the vaccination and that sum has been raised and as soon as the Prime Minister and her team are able to source and call on us to help with the funding, we will disburse the funds – but we have not had that call as yet. We are anxiously awaiting the call to say that she has managed to source it because I think she said last week until she knows for sure she will get it, she isn’t saying anything,” Mallalieu told
