The Pueblo School District 60 Board of Education voted on Thursday to approve an emergency closure of Carlile Elementary School for the upcoming school year and to incorporate the Carlile student body and staff into Columbian Elementary School, after contractors found damage to the school’s HVAC system and roof that make it unfit for occupancy.
“We as a board recognize the difficulty of this kind of emergency closure,” board member Barbara Clementi said after the vote. “It is not taken lightly. We have a beautiful building there on Pitkin and we need to ensure the safety of our students and staff, which we can’t do.”
