Organizing in black communities for 20 years. And i never really took a break to step back. What arey parse out, the key lessons necessary in order to keep moving this movement forward. And, today, we are in the middle of the most important election cycle in a generation. And this is the second time now that our movement is being used as a political football, in a contest that is going to have impact on the lives of millions of americans, so for me this is an opportunity to zoom out, to really invest in recalling the lessons i have learned and that i am still learning, and things i am on learning, that i think makes a successful movement. She also launched the black futures lab, an organization that works with advocacy groups to promote policies that support black communities. Her first book, the purpose of power, was released today. Alicia, thank you so much for joining me and congratulations on your book. Alicia thank you so much for having me, it is great to join you today. Robin i wanted to start with a point that you make in your book which is the importance of controlling the narrative and not allowing your story to be lost to cultural amnesia. With those things in mind, what was it that sparked the idea for you to sit down and write what is really a memoir at your ripe young age .
