Speed a heavy focus, as Police target road trauma
Police across the South West will be out in force across the Easter Long Weekend, with the road policing Operation Nexus commencing this morning.
The Easter Operation will run until 11.59pm on Monday, with police to be targeting speed, drink and drug driving and mobile phone use.
With large numbers of people traveling long distances or on unfamiliar roads to get to holiday destinations, police will also be targeting fatigue, asking drivers to rest regularly. We re asking people to slow down and not make those poor decisions to speed or drive while impaired said Warrnambool Police Senior Sergeant Shane Keogh.
Local Emergency Services Share In Funding
Emergency Services in Western Victoria will share in $1,244,950 in funding, to provide essential operational equipment, vehicles, appliances and minor facility improvements for local volunteers.
Member for Western Victoria, Gayle Tierney today announced that 23 local CFA, Life Saving Victoria and VICSES services would share in the funding
The investment is part of the Government’s 2020-21 Volunteer Emergency Services Equipment Program, which see s the Government match every $1 paid by volunteer groups with a $2 co-contribution.
“I’d like to thank all of our volunteer groups for their hard work and congratulate the successful applicants in the 2019-20 round of VESEP grants” said Ms Tierney.

New date set for TEDxWarrnambool
The eyes of the TEDx community will be on the South West, with the TEDxWarrnambool event having been rescheduled for a new date this year.
Originally the global reaching event had been scheduled for April 3, 2020, but restrictions introduced in March meant it had to be postponed.
All six speakers from the original line-up have been retained for a new date on May 28, with both the venue for the event itself and the official live-stream site able to accommodate the original crowd capacity of 100 audience members each.
Patrolling Police Nab Drink Driver
Warrnambool Police have removed an alleged drink driver from the roads overnight, who returned an evidentiary breath test of more than 4 times the legal blood alcohol limit.
Patrolling officers spoke with the 50 year old female driver at approximately midnight, who accompanied police to the Warrnambool Police Station following a preliminary breath test.
An evidentiary breath test from the driver then returned a result of 0.212.
