Rhythm of War Read-Along Discussion: Chapter Seventeen

WHEN: Day 17, continued (immediately following Chapter 16) L: I’ve done my best with the map, to give approximations of the troop placements and current battlefields as described in this chapter. Anything that I’m uncertain of (in regards to who holds which territory) I’ve simply left alone. A: Excellently done. I love the visual layout of the world as it stands now. I mean… I could wish the blue areas were bigger, but that’s how it is.   The Mink arrives for a strategy meeting with Dalinar and company, in which we learn the state of the world currently in regards to battles and troop placements. It is revealed that there’s… some sort of relationship going on between Jasnah and Hoid, and Jasnah indicates that she’s taking her new position as Queen of Alethkar seriously with some sweeping new legislation…

Dawnshard Reread: Chapter 15 – Epilogue

Lyn: Well, my Cosmere chickens, we’ve reached the final installment of the Dawnshard reread, and boy do we have a lot to talk about! Sam: Hoo boy…. This week the chapters we’ll be talking about completely change a lot of what we assumed about the Cosmere and the history of Adonalsium. Where last week I had a lot to say about how paraplegia was portrayed via Rysn’s character, I think it’s safe to say I’m expecting to have a LOT to say in the Cosmere Connections section. L: Yup, it’s gonna be a doozy! And as such, we’ve invited along one of the resident Cosmere Scholars to help us untangle this web of theories. Drew, care to introduce yourself?

Dawnshard Reread: Chapters 8-14

Lyn: Happy Stormlight Thursday, my chickens! (Yes, I’m going to use this as a term of endearment for you all now. Live with it.) I hope you’ve all been enjoying working your way through Rhythm of War, if you’re not finished with it yet! Sam and I had a great time last week with part one (of three) of the Dawnshard reread, and we’re back now with part two! :: match  bell rings:: This week we’ll be discussing further aspects of the wonderful work that Sanderson does with his representation of Rysn as a disabled character, as well as learning some more about the Sleepless (oooh! aaahhh! …Or maybe AAAHHH! is more appropriate) and watching the Lopen get up to some heroic shenanigans (let’s face it, when does he not?). Next week will be a Cosmere-heavy discussion, so be aware of that going in, my wee chickens. (I’m loving this nickname a little too much.)
