A judge has put off the 2010 HSBC failed heist case indefinitely on grounds that the court still had to hear a new witness or witnesses testify about the crime.
Vince Muscat, known as
il-Koħħu, and Darren Debono, known as
it-Topo, are waiting for their trial over their alleged involvement in the failed 2010 heist. The two, along with Fabio Psaila, are believed to have broken into the bank headquarters in Qormi, before the police scuppered their plans.
The unexpected legal twist surfaced on Thursday morning when Mr Justice Giovanni Grixti declared that the trial was being put off sine die.

The middleman in the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia was granted a pardon for what could have been an indirect role in the heist of the HSBC bank in 2010.
Melvin Theuma is believed to have put up one of his properties as a safehouse for the men involved in the shoot-out with police, in what was a daring heist on the HSBC security vault in Qormi.
Theuma’s role in the heist is included as one of several major crimes for which he was pardoned, MaltaToday has learnt, in return for any information he had on the heist.

Carmelo Abela should take legal action against one of the Degiorgio brothers linking him to the 2010 HSBC heist if he is innocent, Jason Azzopardi said.
He was latching on to Abela’s statement yesterday that he was questioned by police after one of the Degiorgio brothers accused him of being an accomplice in the failed robbery.

Vince Muscat is waiting for his trial appointment for his involvement in a daring heist on HSBC headquarters in 2010 that ended in a shootout with police.
But the failed hold-up was only the most audacious in a string of high profile hits carried out by the same criminal gang over the span of a few years.
In December 2010, lawyer David Gatt was charged with being the mastermind of this gang and faced accusations of criminal association in the four cases listed below.

Opposition leader Bernard Grech is calling on the Prime Minister to take immediate action against Minister Carmelo Abela, who was implicated in the 2010 HSBC heist by the alleged assassins behind the Daphne Caruana Galizia murder. In a normal country, when you have a Minister within the Office of the Prime Minister who is being interrogated by the police about allegations on a very serious case, this leads to him being at least suspended by the Cabinet until the investigations are completed, he said in a Facebook post on Thursday.
