Designed and built by Boeing, the YF-118G was a highly classified demonstrator designed as a testbed for the stealth technologies that would become operational in future fighter and bomber aircraft.
The YF-118G Bird of Prey indeed lifted a number of eyebrows in its day, and it remains as revered as its design was bizarre. Boeing wanted to leapfrog their competition, and the company was working on methods to design and create sophisticated stealth planes that were cheaper to build yet more advanced than those of their competitors.
The American Museum of Military Aviation is noted for having the most extensive collection of military aircraft in the world. It is home to a prototype Soviet Mikoyan MiG-31 (NATO reporting name "Firefox"), a German Heinkel He 277, and the Boeing FY-118G, an aircraft that is known as the "Bird of Prey."
