NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WKBW) â State numbers show the crime rate in Niagara Falls is one of the highest in the state. Coordinator of the Niagara Falls peacemakers, Ezra Scott Jr., said he wants to see this change.
âJust asking people to wake up to whatâs going on and realize that we all play our part to reduce violence in our communities,â Scott said.
âOur young people have just come out of school for the summer, and Iâm just concerned about the increase of violence,â Pastor at St. John AME Church, Reverend Makeeda Brookes said.

The Niagara Falls Peacemakers, Niagara Falls City Council members, Mayor Robert Restaino and others gathered on the steps of Niagara Falls City Hall on Monday to discuss what vaccine equity should look like at the mass vaccination site.
âI think that we can all relate to equitable access when it comes to Niagara County residents as a whole because again you have urban residents in the urban community thatâs dealing with this issue, but also in our rural community, Ezra Scott Jr., Coordinator of the Niagara Falls Peacemakers said. So Niagara County residents first, thatâs what weâre pushing.â
Wounded Knee Massacre and the Toy Soldier: A “George Floyd Moment”
By: Ken Hamilton
While at the American Veterans Monument at Niagara Falls in city’s Hyde Park, Allegheny Seneca Indian and community activist Paul Winnie stands in front of one of the eight small monuments dedicated to American warriors who have been awarded a Medal of Honor for “conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of life above and beyond the call of duty.” That particular monument in which Winnie sadly gazed upon was the one dedicated to then-Niagara Falls resident and US Army Sergeant Frederick E. Toy. Muttering to himself, he softly whispers and calls the monument, “… a George Floyd Moment.” There’s good reason that he wonders why it is still there.
