i think there ll be some collaboration. some saying in here and there. i ve known natalie a long time, she s a dear friend, and we re going to have some fun. we re going to let it fly. anything more? i feel like you re holding back. well, yeah. nat pulls no punches, so i m gonna follow her lead. i don t want to put anything out in particular. how fun would it be for nat a and i to do a harry song? that could be fine. our thanks to ben harper. the album is wide open light, and it s available. now more american voices after the break. and at the top of the hour, don t miss ayman. he ll talk to columbia journalism school dean jelani cobb, and president derek johnson about the supreme court ending affirmative action. that s tonight at eight pm eastern, only on msnbc. i have moderate to severe crohn s disease. now, there s skyrizi. things are looking up
we never walked away from it, and this court seems to say that that s not always the case. the idea there is no right to privacy in the constitution, giving states power that we fought a war over in 1860. i just think it s this is not your father s republican party. the president is right. this is not your father s gop. it s not ronald reagan s party anymore either. no matter how many times modern republicans shout and say that it is. for proof, look at further than today at donald trump s rally in south carolina. it was clear despite impeachments, indictments, and insurrection, his supporters have not wavered. nbc s vaughn hillyard was in pickens, south carolina to witness it. i think we need to be clear
are prone to do and it has been helpful to stimulate the economy, but to solidify civil civil rights. historically, we have always looked to the federal legislature and the federal government to solidify and enforce civil rights. you cannot look to states like the florida legislature or the florida local and state prosecutors, who solidified civil rights gains. and that has to be a part of the broader federal electoral message. coming out of wilmington. and frankly, translating down to senate elections and house elections in 2024. my last question is for you, don. president biden raised some eyebrows among democrats when he said he s against expanding the court, fearing it would politicize the court for ever. do you agree with that? well, i m a bold progressive, so i would like to explore all ideas about expanding the court. we won t call it stacking, but i will say that you don t have to stack the court if you can engage in a bold legislative agenda that would have significant s
democrats to message to voters who say hey, i don t think i like the direction the court is taking us, nor the republican party. where do i go? it s today s democratic party. david, you mentioned alternative pathways following the student loan decision. don, i want to ask you about that. how does the president need to address this issue when touting his economic agenda out there on the campaign trail, is there an opportunity for him to talk about these two things together? absolutely. and david is right, to counter the supreme court the extremist supreme court, you have to talk about two things. first of all, you have to talk about how we got here. we are old enough to remember six years ago when merrick garland current attorney general seat was stolen. you have to highlight the idea that republicans are not playing fairly and there are real consequences to that. you also have to highlight the idea, as david said, that this is time for a bold legislative agenda. not for just floodi
but among house democrats and i think a lot of senators could be brought into it as well. david, same question for you, about court reform. i sympathize with president biden s position. because, look, the supreme court has typically been a very traditional state institution. but they re currently showing that perhaps the performing outside of that boundary. i would say, if you look at the number of federal circus compared to the number of supreme court justices, there s an argument to be made for expanding the number of seats on the supreme court. perhaps democrats should consider that going into 24. david and don, you both stay with us. up next, the desantis crackdown. more than new laws taking effect today in florida. and they tell us a whole lot about what the governor wants if he becomes president. and later, presidential immunity?
