latest tragedy in this isolated corner of the atlantic. so what they re doing now is mapping that debris field trying to get a sense of the dynamic of that implosion to drill down, basically, into what exactly happened. was it the carbon fiber hull? was it the titanium? was the window? was a combination of some or all of those things? they may also want to bring up pieces of the titan, but that will be much more difficult. back to you. now, some ocean explorers say they worry the unanswered safety questions could have a chilling effect on deep-sea travel, the disaster has sparked a debate around extreme adventure tourism. so let s bring in professor jay john lenin, dean of the glasgow school for business and society. thank you so much for being here with us. so, you know, extreme travel, it s always a balance of pushing boundaries while trying to make things as safe as possible. i mean, just what do you make
of this tragedy? so, extreme travel is a very small proportion of a kind of overall adventure travel, and think of it as a scale, a continuum from the soft stuff i would do, trekking and cycling, to harder stuff, like caving, and then at the very end of it you get very unique, authentic experiences such as diving to the titanic, traveling into space, going to the south pole. this is a very expensive ticket, obviously, and so the market is much smaller. but it fits the bill of those seeking something very authentic, something very unusual, and something that s very different from what almost anybody else can do. yeah, and there s been a huge rise in this type of, you know, citizen explorer extreme tourism. you re usually catering to the very wealthy, so what exactly is the appeal here?
