Update Municipal Services during Covid-19

George Municipality GEORGE NEWS - George Municipality hereby confirms that it is open for business, services are being rendered and administration buildings are open except for halls, venues and sport facilities. While in-person services are rendered where required, we appeal to the public to consider doing transactions and business online, per telephone or via email to avoid coming to the municipality in person and helping to reduce the risk of spreading the virus. During the Covid-19 crisis period, certain staff may be working from home or on rotation, which means contact details and office hours of some services may differ from usual operations. Lindiwe Zulu planning return to Cape Town Sassa offices after water cannon chaos

GCIS Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu is planning another trip to Cape Town’s Sassa offices after on-the-ground reports indicate there are still long queues.  Problems with the cancellation of certain grants in December led to huge queues, and applicants in Bellville were sprayed with a water cannon to enforce social distancing. In the meantime, Sassa is still working on updating its website, and its call centre to reduce queues.   Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu is planning another trip to Cape Town’s SA Social Security Agency (Sassa) offices after on-the-ground reports indicated there were still long queues at the Bellville office. 

Makhanda schools set to open mid-February

By JULIAN JACOBS The Makana Joint Operating Centre’s communication team spoke to the Education Department in Makhanda about the readiness of schools to receive learners back to classrooms for 2021 during lockdown level 3 in a Covid-19 hotspot municipal district For all parents, and for parents who are sending their little ones to school for the first time, this is indeed a very emotional period as the long-awaited return for all learners to schools are almost over. The opening day for all public schools across South Africa is scheduled for Monday, 15 February 2021. Private and Independent schools are earmarked to open the first week of February 2021.
