Sheikha Bodour launches her latest book at 12th Sharjah Children’s Book Festival

Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi, Founder and CEO of Kalimat Group (KG) and President of International Publishers Association (IPA), has launched her latest work in children’s literature, World Book Capital, at the 12th edition of the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival (SCRF).
Published simultaneously in Arabic and English by Kalimat Publishing, an imprint of the Kalimat Group that specialises in publishing Arabic books for children and youth, the book was launched on Friday at an interactive session for young visitors at SCRF, which runs under the theme ‘For Your Imagination’ until May 29 at Sharjah Expo Centre.
Sharjah: With more time on their hands, children distance learning from home are reading more books, said visitors to Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival (SCRF) that opened on Wednesday at Expo Centre Sharjah.
The annual 11-day event, now in its 12th edition, was officially opened by His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.
Edvin Varghese Vinoj Edvin Varghese Vinoj, 16, said he has been reading more since the COVID-19 pandemic began. “I’m distance learning and so have more time at home. And what better way to spend time than read some novels?” Edvin added.
He added: “They are the first to witnesses exceptional moments and open our eyes to the world. Their pictures serve as a reminder that change is needed. Their images spur awakening and rally the masses. They push for change to happen. As I explored the exhibitions, I saw that people across cultures have won over challenges. These photographs reaffirmed my belief that the trials humanity faces today will surely pass. We will overcome them, and the outcome of our experiences will reflect in greater resilience.”
Award winners
The SMC chairman and Tariq Saeed Allay, Director, Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB), honoured the winners of the 2021 edition of the Xposure International Photography Awards at a gala award ceremony. The competition saw 33,187 entries from 125 countries. Hossein Fardinfard was announced the overall winner for his image ‘Blackout’.
