RANDOLPH A bridge over Interstate 86 in Randolph may soon be renamed the Sgt. David Lockwood Memorial Bridge.
The state Senate last week passed S.1752, introduced by state Sen. George Borrello. The Assembly has yet to take up companion legislation.
“I’d like to start off by thanking the leadership, both Republican and Democrat, for bringing this bill forward,” Borrello said on the Senate floor. “I think we can all agree that taking landmarks like highways and dedicating them to our heroes that have served our country so bravely is a noble effort and I thank everyone for bringing this bill here today.”

A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in.
James Herbert “Jim” Chmielinski, formerly of Berne, died on Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2020. He was 73.
“Jim was surrounded by family and passed peacefully at home in Cape Cod after a brave battle with cancer,” his children wrote in a tribute.
He was born in Albany, the son of Mark and Agnes Chmielinski and the brother of Mark and Paul Chmielinski.
He was a United States Marine from 1967 to 1970, receiving the following honors: Good Conduct Medal 1st, Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Medal of Honor, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Expert Rifle Badge.
