bridges in the sunshine state. what are your thoughts on ron desantis s political future on the eve of the iowa caucus? i think tomorrow s iowa caucus is the closest to the white house ron desantis will ever get. and i know the candidate himself wants to play an expectation game, and so do pundits, a songs strong finish there looking for. rev, ron desantis has to outrun win iowa if he wants to change this narrative. he s in fourth place in new hampshire, he 60 points behind in nevada, he s third place in south carolina. warming up to a second place finish in iowa does nothing for him. and even if he wins, what would that do for santorum and huckabee and ted cruz? i think tomorrow night, ron desantis and his partner on the trail, his wife, casey, need to decide if they re even going to continue this race. because his time in presidential politics is over. he might have a future in presidential politics akin to kind of a jeb bush or mike huckabee, always flipping with it but never ab
david rohde, and molly jong-fast. for you kurt, right out of the gate here, obviously there are a lot of changes that are going to need to come about to get this thing exactly fitted right for everybody. we just heard that reporting from julie to some of that. what happens if this goes sideways? if for some reason the freedom caucus owns the moment, and steals this victory. how much of this does this blow back on joe biden and the lack of communication on the front and is moved this narrative more in their direction with the american people? you know, i think actually because of this deal coming right now, the expectation game has been well managed. the ball is really in kevin mccarthy s court now. the pressure is on kevin mccarthy to deliver the votes. if this thing falls apart now,
narrative more in the direction with the american people? you know, i think, actually, because of this deal coming right now, the expectation game has been well managed. because the ball is really in kevin mccarthy s court now. the pressure is on kevin mccarthy to deliver the votes. if this thing falls apart now, it is going to be because of house republicans. because of maga extremists, successfully holding mccarthy hostage, once again. and they are the ones who will get the blame. we will be done with this, both sides, narrative that each side has something to lose, like this could blow back on the president, no. the president made the deal. the president did what he was elected to do. deliver deals for the american people that protects the most vulnerable among us, if this falls apart, if we default, if the economy craters, kevin mccarthy is now the face of this deal. there is a reason why he was the reason why he was on camera tonight not the president. so this goes down because
so for now, low expectations. not a lot he has to do. keep people happy and that price is going to be paid when you have to do things. he s right. the first bill from republicans is based on a widely debunked lie about the irs. and the senate is not going to pass legislation eviscerating the irs. but can he make that turn? is a turn possible when you look at, frankly, what the core base, originally the 20 people against kevin mccarthy, the kind of power they yield and geps another 200? i think clearly the expectation game is for a brief period of time is kevin mccarthy s friend. after last week, it was a big screaming reminder to everyone in the caucus of how bad of a
