Two Case Western Reserve University alumni are pledging $1 million to go toward a new university effort focused on interdisciplinary research.
Edward Hemmelgarn and Janice Hammond s gift will be fulfilled over five years. It will create an endowed fund to support seed grants that benefit faculty and students while also serving as catalysts for additional philanthropic investment, per a release from CWRU.
The couple was inspired by the work of the university s Expanding Horizons Initiative and wanted to support it, the statement said. Officials said the program centers on expanding research, spurring on innovation in instruction, and sparking activities that cross disciplines. It was announced last fall.
