Plenty of buyers seeking a limited pool of properties helped drive up real estate prices in Sault Ste. Marie and area in 2020.
Sault Ste. Marie Real Estate Board, representing about 170 agents from Wawa to Elliot Lake, reports 1,767 units were sold in 2020. That’s down from 1,803 in 2019.

The average sale price was $208,507 in 2020. That’s up about 15 per cent from $180,531 in 2019.
The year ended strongly with 117 properties changing hands in December from the Multiple Listing Service compared to 66 in December 2019. The average sale price jumped 25 per cent from $189,220 in December 2019 to $224,960 in December 2020. Meanwhile, new listings were down 13 per cent compared to a year earlier.
