flights have been canceled or delayed. cnn meteorologist allison chinchar is tracking it all from atlanta. allison, an estimated third of the country are going to be traveling for the holiday, so what can they expect? a lot can expect a lot of inclement weather. saginaw michigan, down through detroit, and as you go farther south, it starts to transition into rain. but some of these areas, it s coming down very heavily. we ve also got some purple in here, indicating just a very heavy snow. the reason this is a concern, obviously, it s beginning to exit chicago, but starting tomorrow, we re going to see that transition into d.c., new york, boston, we re talking major cities that have a lot of travel expected in and out of them. and then on the western half of the country, we re taking a look at our next big system. we ve got winter storm watches, warnings, even blizzard warnings. that s the bright orange color you see here in effect through the weekend. because the system is going to
around in the great lakes. yesterday it was all about louisiana. they did pick up several inches of rain. we also had tornado warnings all the through the state yesterday morning. we are seeing that heavy rain moving up across the great lakes. michigan and ohio and chicago area and also indiana will be the ones dealing with the heaviest of the rain. although, it is starting to exit chicago. that should help alleviate any travel troubles that could have been caused out there early this morning. it s a pretty strong system. it s a very slow moving system. that s why we did end up with so much flooding across louisiana. now it s going to sit through indiana and ohio for a little while through the day today. so we could see several inches of rain out that way. a closer look shows you the heavy rain is located all across the northern peninsula of michigan. we have those thunderstorms right now through indianapolis, down through louisville, kentucky, and we will see those slowly spread eastw
