SOUTH HURON – The COVID-19 pandemic means we are living in uncertain times, and South Huron’s mayor says he is proud of the way residents in this community have risen to the occasion.
Looking back on 2020, George Finch said the year was “challenging, to say the least,” but he said South Huron has “good staff and an incredible community to get us all through it together.”

When lockdowns first started last year after the coronavirus spread, municipalities had to react quickly. While Finch said municipalities were able to continue work that involved roads, water and sewage, they weren’t allowed to issue building permits at first, which delayed development.

At the start of 2020 we all had plans. Some planned on family trips, weddings, community events and more. But none of us knew what was coming and none of us knew how long it would last. The people of Exeter in mid-March were called on to stay home, stay safe and wait.

This meant people were laid off, started working from home, became more involved in their children’s education and learned to use Zoom video conferencing extremely well. The families of Exeter still stayed connected through a Community Scavenger Hunt that provided a reason to smile and distract for everyone who was scared, alone and distanced from family and friends.
