that as sort of a constitutional win, and they are now willing to put mike pence before a federal grand jury. do we know when he may testify? there is not yet a date that we are aware of for him to go in front of the grand jury, but we know that in other cases with other witnesses, prosecutors have tend to attended to move. pretty quickly to try to get these folks in front of a grand jury and get their testimony. can the former president block it? he can try. you know, he made an executive privilege argument. when it came to mike pence. the lower court was not buying that did not buy the notion that pence should not talk about his conversations with trump. trump would try to appeal on that front again. but he has lost this kind of argument again with mike pence already when it comes to mark meadows when it comes to pets of bologna, the former white house counsel. they have not had success on this even as the trump team insists that the government is plowing through constitution. all no
decided not to appeal, you know . prior court had said he must testify about his conversations with donald trump in the run up to january. 6th where we, of course know the former president put enormous pressure on mike pence not to certify the results of the 2020 election he did get, you know a slim victory from the court, saying that there were there was a period where pence was serving as president of the senate, and he doesn t have to answer. questions related to that. so, essentially what we heard from pence s team today is they re going to take that as a victory. they are going to take that as sort of a constitutional win, and they are now willing to put mike pence before a federal grand jury. do we know when he may testify? there is not yet a date that we are aware of for him to go in front of the grand jury, but we know that in other cases with other witnesses, prosecutors have tend to attended to move. pretty quickly to try to get these folks in front of a grand jury and get th
executive privilege question. but ruled partly for pence on the legislative question. so now what we re waiting to see is pence going to try to appeal that decision. and could this mean something for other people like former chief of staff mark meadows, who has been trying to get you of testifying before that grand jury? it s another way in which a lot of the people close to trump are failing to fight these subpoenas. because what you re seeing in the pence case and in many others is that when executive privilege has been asserted to try to stop these kind of grand jury questions for people close to trump, those efforts fail and those people are ordered to go into the grand jury. so this is yet another ruling in which the executive privilege argument by trump and the people around him have failed.
sara tell us more what s going on. the judge had previously said that mark meadows, who is the former white house chief of staff, and a handful of other trump administration officials and advisers, had to go to the grand jury and testify and had to answer certain questions that the trump team said should have been covered by executive privilege. so now what we re seeing, according to sources telling me and my colleagues at cohen is that the trump team is trying to appeal that ruling, so this certainly doesn t mean it s going to be a victory in blocking their testimony by any means, but it means the trump team still wants to fight on this executive privilege argument and try to block these folks from at least answering some questions before a grand jury again. this is an argument the trump team has tried with a number of witnesses, and so far , you know, it s failed. they tried to argue that with mike pence it failed in court. they tried to argue that with evan corcoran, who was one of
been out there and you re gonna now have plenty of information and folks who had otherwise been reluctant to testify, coming forward. what is the timeline here? because a number of these folks here they re not. you know , they don t. they re not just looking for the cover of this right? they really they don t want to share information with the special counsel. they re going to do everything they can to not do this, so this will continue with an appeals process. what s the timeline? what are the next steps? my guess is that the appellate court will take it up fairly quickly. there was no question there will be an appeal on this. trump s team will take it out there, push the executive privilege argument as far as they can, you know, is it something that can be heard within a month? maybe so, but i do think there s a growing sense of urgency that there needs to be some resolution. some finality. uh this investigation needs to be brought to some conclusion. whatever it may be, um so you kn
