People didn’t stop going to the movies during the COVID-19 pandemic. With indoor theatres closed, drive-ins experienced an unexpected surge in attendance due to the already socially-distanced nature of the business, and accounted for the entire U.S. box office take for months.  Naturally, Ciné began thinking about how they could set up one of their own, but the logistics of doing so while maintaining the quality experience patrons of the downtown Athens nonprofit theatre had come to expect over the past 14 years presented a challenge.  Beginning Tuesday, June 1, the public will be able to pull into the parking lot of the old General Time/Westclox building at 100 Newton Bridge Road and safely enjoy the Ciné Drive-In, a weekly event that will feature food trucks, refreshments and the familiar faces of Ciné staff running the show.
