Shiv Sena MP Arvind Sawant on Friday slammed the Centre and various BJP-ruled state governments over reducing taxes on fuel prices, terming it as an election strategy and pointed out that people of the country were aware of such "jumlas".
As per the notification issued by the Department of Excise and Taxation, UT Chandigarh, the VAT percentage on petrol has been reduced from 22.45 per cent to 15.24 per cent and on diesel from 14.02 per cent to 6.66 per cent.
Following the Centre's decision to cut excise duty on fuel, 9 NDA-ruled states also reduced the petrol and diesel prices in their respective territories by cutting the VAT attached to the fuel rates.
