(MENAFN - Gulf Times) Ex-Peruvian health minister Oscar Ugarte took up his old role again yesterday, after his predecessor resigned over claims that a former president was vaccinated against Covid-19 long before the jab was available to the public.
Ugarte, a physician who had served as health minister under President Alan Garcia from 2008 to 2011, was sworn in again yesterday, and thus became Peru s fifth health minister since the coronavirus pandemic emerged in the South American country 11 months ago.
He succeeds Pilar Mazzetti, who had served as health minister since July. She presented her letter of resignation on Friday to President Francisco Sagasti, state television reported.
