Whereas Scottish Ambulance Service paramedics are allowed to be camera shy, the country’s newest helimed crew need to enjoy pressing the flesh with those who keep their aircraft flying.

Sign Up From snowy ski slopes and wind-buffeted remote islands to pitch-black roadsides and sunny beaches, the crew of Helimed 79 has experienced all the seasons of Scotland in its first year of operation. SCAA’s (Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance) second aircraft, based in Aberdeen, has travelled almost 22,000 nautical miles since its launch 12 months ago.

Sign Up Paramedics working for Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance believe a new rapid response vehicle, launched at New Year, has already proven its worth. The BMW X5, kitted out with the latest lifesaving equipment, has been used on about 10 rescues in the north-east since January 1 – among them crashes and cardiac episodes.
