Former Boston police sergeant and a current officer agree to plead guilty in connection with overtime fraud scheme at evidence warehouse Updated May 13, 2021; A former Boston police sergeant and a Boston police officer have agreed to plead guilty in connection with ongoing investigation of overtime fraud at the Boston Police Department’s evidence warehouse, federal prosecutors announced on Thursday. George Finch, the 59-year-old former sergeant, and Officer Michael Murphy, 61, were charged with one count of conspiracy to commit theft concerning programs receiving federal funds and one count of embezzlement from an agency receiving federal funds. In September, Murphy, Finch and seven other Boston Police officers were arrested and charged for their roles in an overtime fraud scheme that prosecutors say has collectively embezzled more than $250,000 between May 2016 and February 2019.
