dana: did you get any sense afterwards in terms of just the scene in terms of everybody pitching in? interesting to think the police are there on parade duty and it is supposed to be a wonderful event. i know this is an important event for your community and one that people look forward to after being canceled last year due to covid. anything you saw in terms of the immediate first responder response? there is a lot of families with young kids and i think the main goal for them was to get off the streets, into the stores. you also saw a lot of people who ran out into the street to help the people that were on the ground. it was pure chaos and pure fear. and you could tell that everyone was just trying to process what happened and get out of their safely. bill: we have a name russell brooks. don t know where he is from. a long criminal record.
many of them little kids were left by border patrol officials at the local mcdonald s. they had no money, no food, and no idea where they were. in the last month, a staggering 6,700 migrants have been brought to deming. town official chris bryce is in charge of helping them. we are getting really good at this. reporter: maybe too good at it. within 24 hours the town had set up a shelter on the fairgrounds with just about everybody pitching in. how much money are you spending a day? anywhere from 15 to 17,000 a day. reporter: the whole fire department relocated. one of the best things i ve done as a firefighter. reporter: we ve got a rare look inside this shelter. it represents a shift in federal policy. the feds used to be the only ones running shelters and paying for them. remember, this is not a federally-run detention center, it s a shelter. families spend a few days until moving in with a u.s. sponsor while waiting for their asylum hearings. these families we have agree
submarine, the estimate was they had about seven or eight days provisions onboard. maybe less time than that assuming they could make oxygen for themselves. so clearly we re on the outer limits of that window. it s been about a week. and that s not good. it s not good we haven t had in contact with that submarine in that time. it s a race against the clock. i think everybody s treating it that way. which is why now you ve got the russians coming onboard with some deep sea assets. everybody pitching in to try and do what they can. admiral, we have to turn to that downed missing plane and the search for three missing sailors. eight people were rescued and apparently in good condition, which is good news. but do you think everyone involved in the crash is going to be concentrated in that same area or do they have to look further out? so what s happening now as you would expect after a day or so, they re expanding the area they re looking at. that s because they knew where the plane we
sort of century judge? we had to show century judge people as soon as they got there. we had a 15-minute warning that there was an event but thin patients started pouring in. we took them as they came. any sense of how many of those who were shot at your hospital are still there? yeah, so, you know current numbers up to date, we still have 59 patients admitted. 31 of those is still in critical condition. dr. fisher, it s just incredible what you and all the trauma specialist were able to do. the doctors and nurses, everybody pitching in like that. we really appreciate you talking to us, dr. fisher thank you so much. thank you. much more from las vegas ahead. we also want to update you on puerto rico, nearly two weeks after hurricane maria.
