In this week s episode in the Let s Talk Dairy webinar series, Stuart Childs discusses milk recording reports and the importance it has to farmers.
Milk recording is important to identify superior cows who are producing high levels of solids and also to identify the most productive cows which can then be beneficial from an environmental and economic point of view.
Generally, milk recording is an under utilized tool at the moment. There has been a big increase in milk recording figures in relation to the 2019 figures with 2020 not being reviewed as much because of the impact of COVID-19. There s also been a big impact of milk recording in the progressive area and in the Munster catchment area also.

On a recent Teagasc Research Insights webinar which took place on Wednesday, 28th April, Padraig French, Head of Livestock Systems Department and Dairy Enterprise Leader was joined by panellists to discuss using white clover to reduce chemical nitrogen application and increase animal performance.
This webinar discussed the benefits on including white clover in grassland in terms of animal performance and environmental sustainability plus how best to incorporate into grassland farms.

On a recent Farm Business Options Webinar which took place on Tuesday, 27th April, Barry Caslin was joined by Gordon Peppard, Teagasc Farm Structures Specialist to discuss the various collaborative agreements on offer.
Collaborative Farming Agreements and Land Leasing are options for those who want to step back from day to day operations but in some cases retain their “farmer” status and occupation of the land for tax, subsidy and lifestyle reasons. Gordon Peppard, Teagasc Farm Structures Specialist joined Barry Caslin to give an overview of the various collaborative agreements on offer.
